Killeagh Music Marathon

Killeagh Music Marathon

We would like to thank the management of Killeagh Community Centre who held a 24 hours music festival in November. There also was a bucket collection in Tesco Middleton in September after the event's launch date. The funds raised from the generosity of the public and community exceeded the expectations of everyone involved. These funds have been divided between Aid Cancer Treatment and Killeagh Community Hall and recently the organisers provided our representatives with a cheque for a staggering €7,000 Over 130 musicians provided 25 hours of music including a choir and a junior Chomaltas group from Youghal plus a junior violin group Thank you to all who contributed.

Caherciveen Boston Tea Party

Bluebell Lunch

Aid Cancer Treatment would like to thank the Griffin Family from Caherciveen who recently hosted a Boston Tea Party and raised an incredible €3000 for Aid Cancer Treatment. Thank you to the Griffin Family.

The Bluebell Lunch

For 40 years, Aid Cancer Treatment has been quietly supporting Cancer Patients and their families all throughout Cork and its surrounds.

Bluebell Lunch
This year we celebrated our 40th birthday as an Organisation by hosting the first annual Bluebell Lunch fundraising event which took place on November 12th 2023 at the Rochestown Park Hotel. The entire event was a remarkable success raising in excess of €9,000. These funds will as always be used to improve the care and comfort of cancer patients and their families throughout the region.

This will go toward the improvement of all facilities and services available for cancer patients in Cork University Hospital, as part of our continuing effort to raise funds to invest in new developments for the provision of cancer services in the Cork University Hospital.

We are all very proud at the success of the day which was underscored by the joy and fun had by all. When the committee first began to discuss holding such an event, we had hoped for perhaps a turnout of around 75 or so guests and perhaps 10 or so spot prizes. In the end, there was over 200 tickets sold to the event and 2 dozen prizes were provided. What a huge but such a pleasant shock to us all. As usual the kindness and generosity of the Cork people has shone through, and we are all so grateful.

Entertainment was provided by the choir at St. Vincents who were joined by the international baritone voice of Joe Corbett, and they were simply outstanding. The choir were infectiously entertaining, and they had the entire room singing along throughout the afternoon. Joe was a true gent on the day and sang some local classics. The fields of Athenry in particular, got a massive response from all the guests.

Thank you to all those who attended, your smiles as you left the function room, were heartwarming to us all. We cannot wait to see you all again at the 2nd annual Bluebell Lunch. The planning has already begun.

The entire A.C.T. committee as well as all of the volunteers who helped on the day would like to thank all of our sponsors and supporters on the day. Both the individuals as well as local businesses who were so kind to donate to such a worthy cause. We would also like to thank those who provided all the spot prizes for our raffle on the day.

We would also like to thank the Rochestown Park Hotel for accommodating us on the day. The crew there were great and too helpful for words. Thanks again also to the great entertainers on the day. Below is a list of our partners and sponsors for the event and links to their own sites, and we again would like to issue our eternal thanks to them all.

Bluebell Lunch

For 40 years, Aid Cancer Treatment has been quietly supporting Cancer Patients and their families all throughout Cork and its surrounds. This year we celebrate our 40th birthday as an Organisation.

And to mark this staggering occasion, we are planning to host a Lunch event to recognise the great work undertaken by our dedicated crew for so many years. And importantly to raise funds for much needed services in CUH.

There is a full afternoon planned for our guests at this event. Starting at 1p.m. there will be a drinks reception on arrival followed by a lunch. There will be a prize raffle on the day also which will be sponsored by a number of local Cork based businesses who have graciously supplied us with an array of spot prizes for the raffle on the day.

The Micky Hourihane Festival of Football was a rousing success

03-05 June 2023
Micky Hourihan Festival of Football
2022 ended on a sad note for the people of Leeds AFC. On December 31st 2022 their beloved chairman “Mr. Leeds” passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. Now almost 6 months on from the tragic loss and the club have honoured him in the best way they could.
Michael Hourihane was one of the finest examples of what makes grassroots football such a valued part of the community in Cork. The former club chairman and former club secretary had served in almost every role imaginable at the club, from chairman to groundsman and everything in between. After his passing, He received a guard of honour, in spite of the January cold, by the club’s players and members which stretched from his home all the way to the church for his funeral, such was the love and respect and the gratitude they each felt for their mentor and friend.
Micky Hourihan Festival of Football
Micky was responsible for the sporting education of hundreds of youngsters throughout Cork. After over 30 years of service to the club, he has left a massive legacy behind him. Micky had become synonymous with Leeds as the years went on and indeed he was always well thought of by clubs and players all throughout the soccer scene here on Leeside. Thanks must go to his wife Norma and their 4 children for having shared Michael with so many for so long. He was a titan of Cork sport and will be forever remembered as such.
It was because of the love and respect that people had for Micky that Leeds AFC were able to put together a wonderful tribute to him with the help of several other local clubs. A weekend long festival featuring games and bouncy castles and loads more fun for all the family, along with of course, some brilliant football. The weekend culminated in an U16s blitz which is set to become an annual tournament in memory of “Mr. Leeds”.
Micky Hourihan Festival Check Presentation
The Micky Hourihane Festival of Football was a rousing success as well with €7,129 raised in support of Aid Cancer TTreatment. Aid Cancer Treatment would like to thank Leeds AFC for this amazing donation. Well done to all involved. The generosity of an entire community has moved us all. We as an organisation could not have been prouder to have been associated with such an event. RIP Micky

The Colorectal Multidisciplinary Service sends a thank you message to Aid Cancer Treatment

30 January 2023

To ACT Charity

The colorectal service would like to acknowledge and thank you for your support towards improving the quality of cancer services for patients who have Bowel cancer.

The following areas have all benefited from this;

* Funds towards developing and printing a patient Bowel Surgery Information book. This has helped reduce infection rates in CUH significantly. A recent patient survey also showed improved patient satisfaction. We have included the link and promoted ACT on the hard cover of the book. It will also be on the CUH website which will have a link to ACT on the patient information.

 Education; which enabled development of further specialist roles directly impacting care to patients.

 Equipment: Trans Rectal Ultrasound and Anal Manometry machines; enabling us to provide a one stop multidisciplinary clinic that saved multiple visits to clinics for patients

 Wards; to improve patient comfort and prevent complications while in hospital, for example pressure prevention cushions / privacy curtains / seated medical weighing scales and shelving

 Very important – mirrors for shaving and changing stoma appliances and replacement remote controls for televisions which (TV’s were also bought with charitable funds in the past)

The Colorectal Multidisciplinary team are very grateful for the all the assistance for our patients. Any item, big or small makes a difference to the patients experience.

We have of course many ambitions and visions as a team such as pre-habilitation / stationary physio exercise equipment to aid recovery and reduce complications are becoming standards of care worldwide and we would love of course to offer the best to the people of Cork and its region.

Regards
On behalf of the team
