Barry graduated in 1998 from Portobello College Dublin with a LLB degree. After spending a year in London's BBP Law School he returned to Dublin and thereafter joined the Property and Banking department of a major legal firm before setting up the practice of Barry J Rafferty Solicitors. He is currently a member of Dublin Solicitors Bar Association. Barry also in his spare time volunteers at a free legal aid centre.

Barry also hopes to qualify soon as a tax consultant from The Associateship of the Irish Taxation Institute (AITI) being Ireland's only dedicated professional taxation qualification
